What is aromatic compound?
It depends on who is using the word. Typically, we might say that something that has an aroma (a smell) is “aromatic”. But an organic chemist would describe an aromatic compound as being an organic molecule with a “ring” structure like benzene. Usually, “aromatic” hydrocarbons are based on the benzene molecule or a derivative of benzene where O, S or N has replaced one or more carbon atoms.
