What does Girard mean by “models”?
Girard is referring to models of desire. Our models let us know what objects to desire. For example, if I’m hungry, my model may be the cool kid in the commercial who is eating a hamburger. Or my model may be my grandmother who always made an apple pie for my birthday. In fact, if I want to be cool or am in need of comfort, I may choose to eat those things even when I’m not hungry !
