What is slag wool?how it helps?
Slag wool is made by blowing air through molten slag from a blast furnace. (A little like blowing air through molten sugar to produce fairy floss). The material is fibrous and very useful for such purposes as insulation. Products like these have replaced asbestos for lagging pipes, etc. “Rock wool” and ‘glass wool” are similar products, produced by blowing air through molten rock or glass. Slag used to be a waste product, but products such as slag wool and road-base raw materials have made it a valuable commodity in some places. Slag wool is produced efficiently, because the raw materials (molten slag, compressed air) are already available in a steelworks.
