Who are Ethiopias Allies?
The US, all EU nations, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland.. Ethiopia maintains close ties to the West and considers these nations as its allies, particularly the US and Great Britain, but increasingly with Brussels and the EU. Somalia has participated with Kenya on regional anti-terrorism activities. It’s adversaries include Eritrea, Sudan and many tribes in Somalia (though it has maintained positive relations with the current Somali Transitional government, who requested the aid of the Ethiopian army against Somalia’s Islamic Courts Union. In the past Ethiopia was an ally of the USSR (until 1991) though it has maintained nominal ties with the non-aligned movement (with non-Soviet or West allied states such as India, Brazil, South Africa and others). It is currently a country that is very wary of Islamic movements in neighboring countries (Ethiopia is a country split nearly 50/50 between Christians and Muslims (with some animists), it’s neighbors primarily Islamic.
