Ocean fertilisation involves adding huge quantities of iron or other nutrients such as urea, to areas of the ocean. The nutrients then encourages the growth of huge blooms of algae or phytoplankton. The phytoplankton and algae absorbs CO2 as it grows, and in theory should sink to the ocean floor when they die, taking the captured CO2 with it.
