what is buddhist economics?
In my humble understanding, Buddhist economics are just that: economic activities and attitudes that are shaped by the principles of Buddhism. One of the most fundamental tennants of Buddhism is to do no harm, and another is non-delusion. Between those things, one may infer that owning stock in, or doing buisness with, a company that does harm or deluding onesself about the presence of harm is not OK. I, for example, cannot work for, own stock in, or in general do buisness with Boeing. They have defense contracts and make machines which are designed to kill: fighter planes, bombers, etc. War machines. In short: it’s a definition of the ethical yardstick to use in fiscal interactions. This is only my understanding, not based upon any reference texts.
