What is a scale score?
The score report provides candidates with information on their performance in terms of both raw scores (the number of exam questions answered correctly) and scale scores. Different scales are often used to transform and report raw scores on the examination – these are commonly called scale scores. The scale range for the WCET exam is 200 to 800 with 500 set as the passing score. Due to variations in the difficulty level of each exam form, raw passing scores can differ from one form to another. For example, a candidate may need to obtain a raw score of 105 to pass Form A of the exam and a raw score of 107 to pass Form B of the exam. The reason for using scale scores is to make scoring comparable from one form of an exam to the next. When using scale scores, the passing score is set at the same point on the scale (500 for the WCET exam) so that candidates will know what score they need to obtain prior to taking the exam.
