What is Closed Die Forging?

0

Also called impression die forging, closed die forging uses two or more dies. Each die contains an impression of the desired shape. The metal is heated until it reaches a plastic state and is then compressed by the dies. The plastic metal fills the impressions and produces a part that cannot be obtained using flat or open dies. Excess metal that escapes during the process is called flash and is trimmed off by a machine.
