extruded vs Co extruded?
Co extrusion is a process whereby a lower cost vinyl compound is extruded into the body of the seawall profile and a higher cost richer compound is extruded by a second extruder to coat the profile and provide a UV protected and colored coating to the finished product. A mono extrusion is the process whereby the seawall profile is made from one homogenous compound that provides all the necessary UV protection, strength and color requirements. Both processes have benefits and drawbacks. Co-extrusion is a more expensive process, but can use cheaper materials. Mono-extrusion is a less expensive process, but with a higher material cost. A good low cost manufacturer knows how and when to blend the processes to provide the greatest benefit to his customer. Co-extrusion and Mono-extrusion processes both can produce a top quality seawall profile. Shoreline Plastics can and has produced all their products (except SLP-600) in both co and mono extrusions.
