What is the CPAT?
The CPAT is the “Candidates Physical Abilities Test.” It is a timed, standardized agility test that consists of “firefighter job related skills.” Within the given time allottment, it is pass/fail. Special Note: If you are not familiar with the CPAT, note that it is a physical test that requires Endurance and Upper Body Strength. You will not pass if you have not adequately prepared in these areas. Women especially, MUST develop their upper body strength in order to complete all phases. Men, you can’t rely solely on physical strength to get you through. You must also have cardiovascular endurance.
