What is cold process soap?
Cold process soap involves no cooking of the soap base. Oils and sodium hydroxide are mixed together at 100F and then the mixture is poured into moulds, insulated with blankets and left alone for approximately 24 hours. During this time the soap is cooking itself, heated by the reaction between the oils and the lye. After 24 hours the soap is cut and then cured for four to six weeks. Cold Process Soaps do not need chemical preservatives because the oil is not boiled.
