What exactly is a mole?
Moles are discolored spots elevated above the surface of the skin. They are congenital, and as a rule they are harmless. A change in shape or color is not normal and should be evaluated by a doctor, as well as scaling, oozing, bleeding, itchiness, tenderness, or pain. It could be a warning of melanoma, a sometimes deadly form of skin cancer. A freckle is an accumulation of melanin, the chemical that gives us our skin and hair pigmentation. It’s just a localized spot of coloration and is not a mole. Exposure to sun makes us produce more melanin, thus the freckles. Melanin can be present melanomas also.
