Loansome Doc is an online method of ordering full text journal articles after conducting a literature search using the MEDLINE™ database. MEDLINE is the National Library of Medicine’s searchable database of over 12 million citations from more than 4,600 medical, dental, health and scientific journals. Launched by the NLM in 1971, MEDLINE contains citations of dental articles dating back three decades to 1964. Loansome Doc is available only to users of PubMed and the MEDLINE search interfaces offered by the NLM. The system utilizes DOCLINE, NLM’s automated interlibrary loan request and referral system. Loansome Doc is offered only by specific libraries, including the ADA Library. From the MEDLINE/PubMed Web site, a user can order articles from a list of retrieved citations. The Loansome Doc requests are downloaded by the ADA Library staff by the next working day. The requested articles will be processed and sent either by mail or fax, according to the member’s profile.
