What is a GEO MAP file?
The GEO_MAP file is an electronic image of the generalized site plan map and is most often created by electronically scanning the hard copy report’s site map. The GEO_MAP should display locations of existing and former underground storage tanks, buildings, dispenser islands, streets bordering the facility, and sampling locations of all ground water wells and soil samples. The GEO_MAP does not need to contain locations of composite samples (often collected from stockpiles or holding drums). We don’t recommend any specific software program to create a GEO_MAP. You can use any software program that can create a GIF, TIFF, JPEG (JPG), or PDF from a scanned image of your hard copy site map or, if the software you used to create your hard copy site map is capable of saving the file in one of the acceptable formats, that’s fine too. The GEO_MAP file must always be named “GEO_MAP” and should have the applicable file extension (.gif, .jpeg, .jpg, or .pdf) and should NOT be “zipped” prior to upl
