Do they make good pets?

Not really. C. ornata is extremely aggressive – it usually bites if given the chance, no matter how long it’s kept in captivity. Also, flying snakes need special conditions – a large vertical tank with lots of branches, a warm temperature, and high humidity. Paradise Tree snakes don’t seem to do well in captivity. This depends on what you consider a good pet for you. The DOGO Canario makes an exceptional pet for the right home. They are obedient, loyal and bond very strongly with their owners. They thrive on the attention of their human families. They are a dominant breed and do require that the owners be as assertive as they are. This does not mean that you must strong arm your dogs and earn their respect. The DOGO is NOT a good dog for a submissive family that will allow the dog to rule the household. Nor are they a good choice that expects a pack of dogs to live in total harmony in one home. Some of them do require supervision around other animals.

Alpacas make very good pets if they are treated well and the owners are realistic in their expectations. The more handling they receive as youngsters, the quieter they are as adults. Given time, most alpacas will eat out of your hand and they are easily halter trained. Alpacas look cute and cuddly but they generally don’t like being held, and are particularly sensitive to being touched on or about the head. The best thing to remember is that they are alpacas, and not dogs or cats, and should be allowed to be alpacas. If you are planning to keep alpacas as pets, we would advise that 2 or more alpacas is far preferable to 1, as they naturally live in groups.

Most alpacas make very good pets if they are treated well and the owners are realistic in their expectations. We particularly breed for a good quiet temperament but like any livestock, the more handling they receive as youngsters, the quieter they are as adults. Given time, most alpacas will eat out of your hand and are easily halter trained. Although alpacas look cuddly they generally dont like being held, and are particularly sensitive to being touched on the head. Alpacas are naturally curious and intelligent and if you let them approach you, rather than rush at them and expect an affectionate response, the interactions can be very rewarding. The best thing to remember is that they are a stock animal, not dogs or cats, allow them to be just alpacas. We highly recommend that you keep at least 2 alpacas together for pets. They are herd animals and seem to rely on their mates more than most other animals.
