What is burlesque dancing?
Burlesque encompasses so much more than just stripping. It’s an entire act. Burlesque performers (by the way, it’s a theatrical performance, not a type of dance) also dance, sing, act and do comedy acts. Dita Von Teese, for example, was a soloist in a major ballet company by the time she was 13, and as a result frequently goes en pointe in her performances. Burlesque performers also rarely strip down to less than a g-string and pasties. Traditional Burlesque was also not limited to just women.
