Can the new landlord raise my rent?
There is normal business and there is abnormal business. If a new owner deems it that the previous owner gave a sweetheart deal to the tenant, the new owner can ask for the lease to be vacated/found to be voidable and a more “reasonable” amount of rent charged. An example way to see this is–why did the home go into foreclosure? Was an agreement set up to force the owner to fail while giving the tenant a GIFT of x$ in rent? Meaning, as you said, the going rent was $1,000 but you paid only $200, can a judge order your rent raised by $800 as a condition to continue living there?
